What a great idea - isnt it time to try to reshape the North West - and this is exactly what Imran Hakim and a couple of very important others are going to do tomorrow at the RAW event. (Jan 20th 2010)
Young entrepreneur Imran Hakim, best known as one of the most successful individuals to gain investment on BBC 2’s Dragons Den with his innovative iTeddy, is an optometrist by profession controlling a portfolio of businesses within the optical sector, including a chain of optical retail practices, lens laboratory, and spectacle frame distribution. He is also a family man who has just got engaged so congrats to him - he is in the club :)
He has won several business awards over the years in recognition of his numerous endeavours, including NorthWest Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006, Fusion Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 and most recently a Mosaic Award for Science and Technology from HRH Price of Wales. His work on the iTeddy brand has earned him awards such as Start-up Business of the Year 2008 and IOD’s NorthWest Young Director of the Year Award 2008.
Having run his own business since he was 16, he has extensive first-hand experience in a wide range of business sectors and now spends most of his time expanding his business portfolio and investing in high growth businesses. He is Director of Entrepreneurship for UMIP working closely with the universities in order to commercialise new intellectual property.
Both him and myself love helping new businesses and it was with Bolton Uni that we did some work today. Linking in with orgnisations like NCGE’s make it happen and HSBC to bring something new and different to Bolton. He is doing it again with something even BIGGER - and GREATER - with a great example of powerful thinking and entrepreneurial flair with RAW…
