ARE ENTREPRENUERS MADE OF DIFFERENT STUFF?

A chap who came to one of my talks over the last couple of months texted me the other night with a great question:

Were you made an entreprenuer or born one?

A very BIG question which links into everything we are about as a company ..... the question needing answering and rephrasing.

ARE ENTREPRENUERS MADE OF DIFFERENT STUFF?

Which nicely linked into a book I am writing with Dr David Bozward - which you can help choose the title for…. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GFS7FHQ

ARE ENTREPRENUERS MADE OF DIFFERENT STUFF?

So what is it that separates the successful and the unsuccessful if it isn’t just chance.

Many people think that they now this answer. And I quite like the fact that many don’t.

It’s nice to have an enigma wrapped around a myth or two. Anecdotal evidence rarely points to much more than a feeling. Whilst research time and time again shows that education, race, age, sex and demographic have absolutely nothing to do with it.

We feel that entrepreneurism is one thing.

The desire to get up off your arse (as Brad Burton wonderfully and colourfully puts it in his book.)

Whether Brad and his bottom ideas are right, there are some definite answers that we can point to which make up some of the make-up of the entrepreneur of the modern day.

But even these don’t completely encompass what it is to be successful. And we shouldn’t want them to.

You should and will define not only your own success, but in the process, define how success is gained and understood about for the next generation to come. Dan Sodergren.

What traits might you have? Tick them if you got them. They can make your an entrepreneur.

•    Motivation to achieve—In almost every case, successful entrepreneurs are individuals who are highly motivated to achieve. They tend to be doers, people who make things happen.

•    The habit of hard work - quote Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari game company ‘it all comes down to one critical ingredient, getting off your ass and doing something.’ Brad was right.

•    Nonconformity—Entrepreneurs tend to be independent souls, unhappy when forced to conform or toe the line.  Look at Richard Branson.

•    Strong leadership—Starting a new company can be a harrowing experience full of uncertainty and risk. Many of them cut from the same cloth as Peter Jones.

•    Opportunity spotting - The entrepreneur in us sees opportunities everywhere we look, where other people see only problems everywhere they look. M. Gerber author of the emyth.

What we believe is that entrepreneurs DO things differently.

So what did you do when you were younger - did you got out car washing to make money or did you have a paper round?

One of them requires an entreprenuerial mindset.

One of them needs some PR opportunities (mine was the fact my father was the local vicar)

And one of them might even need some great marketing if the market place is taken over.

So are you made an entrepreneur - I truly believe so.

Because you can learn the answer to the above question (the answer is that the car washing round is more entrepreneurial)

And as you can learn to be more entrepreneurial so you cannot be born one.

So another good question for now is….

Are you an entrepreneur?

Try out our new facebook application (for Make it Happen) which is about to be launched and find out :)

So whether you are looking to start a business when you work from home, or looking to start a business with government loans. The question has to be which one is more entreprenuerial?

I truly believe that government business loans are very important to some businesses.

But NOT all of them, as with great marketing you can bootstrap your business especially if you work from home job as setting up a small business is getting easier and easier.

Where as being self employed is now child’s play - see Make it Happen for more free business advice and help especially if you are a graduate - as this is now FREE for you to use :)
